Ladybug Birthday Party
Please read all of the instructions prior to starting. Some sections will require early preparation.

Birthday Morning

What You'll Need:

Pancake Mix
Red Food Coloring
Whipped Cream
Chocolate Syrup
2 Chocolate Morsels

Start your child's birthday with a fun ladybug birthday pancake. Prepare pancake batter as directed on package for several pancakes, add several drops of red food coloring until the desired color is reached and mix thoroughly. Spray griddle. Pour batter to form perfect circles (1 large, 1 medium and 1 small) and cook until lightly browned on both sides. When cooked, place one pancake on plate for the body. Place small pancake above body to form head. Next, cut medium pancake in half to form to wings and place one on each side of body. Spray whipped cream on head. Next, squirt the chocolate syrup on the wings forming 3 circles on each wing. Next, use the chocolate syrup to make the antennae. Last, place two chocolate morsels on the head to form two eyes. Sing happy birthday and serve!

What You'll Need:

Plain Red Balloons
Black Permanent Marker
Black Bingo Dauber
Red Streamers
Red & Black Decorative Balloons

For ladybug balloons, use a black permanent marker and draw large black circles on each balloon and hang. For ladybug streamers, use a black bingo dauber and dot circles across streamers and hang. Place red and black decorative balloons in party room.

Party Table Setting

What You'll Need:

Red Plastic Tablecloth
Red or Black Black Plates
Red or Black Spotted Napkins
Red Cups (See Punch Below)
Spotted Party Bags (See Party Favors Below
Ladybug Cookies (See Snacks Below)
Snack Mix (See Snacks Below)

Place tablecloth on table. Place a snack bag and snack cup next to each plate. Place cookies in the middle and napkins on the side.

Snacks

What You'll Need:

Snack Cups

Ladybug Clip Art
Red Paper
Clear Plastic Cups
Glue or Tape
Snack Mix (We used a mixture of popcorn, nuts and pretzels)

You can find free ladybug clip art by searching the Internet. You'll need to print out one for each guest, one per cup (or more if you prefer) on white paper. Cut out each ladybug in a circle. Using the red paper, cut out one long strip about 2 inches wide for each cup. Glue or tape each strip around each cup (see picture). Next, glue or tape the ladybug on the front where the strip meets. Lastly, fill each cup with snack mix.

Ladybug Sugar Cookies

What You'll Need:

Sugar Cookie Mix
White Frosting
Red Food Coloring
Black Decorative Cake/Cookie Gel

Bake sugar cookies as directed on package. For a soft and chewy cookie, I bake mine between 7 and 8 minutes. Let cookies cool. Place frosting in bowl and add desired amount of red food coloring, mix thoroughly. Frost each cookie. Use black gel and draw a vertical line down the center of each cookie. Draw a small horizontal line at the top of each vertical line for the head. Next, design small circles all over each cookie (see picture above).

Cake and Cupcake Cake

Ladybug Cake

Since we had two birthday parties to make sure all family and friends could attend, we chose to order a cake for one and I baked a cupcake cake for the other. You should be able to call most bakeries and have them design a ladybug cake. I gave the bakery a picture with instructions to design ours.

Ladybug Cupcake Cake

What You'll Need:

Strawberry Cake Mix
24 Cupcake Liners
White Frosting
Red Food Coloring
Black Frosting in a Tube
Black Decorative Cake/Cookie Gel in a tube
Red Frosting or Gel in a Tube
White Frosting in Tube

Tip: For frosting in tubes, place frosting in plastic bag and cut a small tip in corner.

Line cupcake pan. Bake cupcakes as directed on package. Let cool. Place cupcakes on a flat serving tray using the above picture as a reference. You should have 7 rows when finished. Place frosting in bowl and add red food coloring to desired color. Frost rows 4 through 7 with red frosting. Using the black frosting in tube, frost rows 1 through 3. Using the white frosting, make a smile, eyes and eyelashes.Using the red frosting, make to circles on the ends of the smile. Using the black gel, draw small circles inside of the white eyes, make the antennae, draw a line down the middle of the red rows, draw circles over the red body and draw a triangle shape over the very back of the middle of the last row. Using the white frosting, draw small circles inside the black circles of the eyes.

Ladybug Punch

What You'll Need:

Red Cups
Black Bingo Dauber
Package of Thawed Blueberries
2 Ice Cube Trays
Fruit Punch

Using black dauber, add dots to cups and let dry. Prepare ice cubes by placing a blueberry in each ice cube slot in each ice tray. Freeze until done. In large drink bowl, add fruit punch and blueberry ice cubes.

Party Favors

What You'll Need:

Red Bags
Black Bingo Dauber
Party Favors of Your Choice

Using black dauber, dot red bags. Place favors in bag. List name of guest on each bag. We did this because we bought different favors for boys and girls.

Time to Dress Up

We were able to locate a ladybug themed dress. She wore red tights and black shoes (She got those cute little purple boots for her birthday). What a cute little bug!

Extras:

We used red wrapping paper for her presents to add to the theme. For games, you may be able to find a pinata in the shape of a ladybug. Or, you could design a pin-the-spot on the ladybug game.

Hope your little one has a Happy Ladybug Birthday!
